Volunteering with OWR

Without our volunteers, Oxfordshire Wildlife Rescue could not continue to care for the sick, injured and orphaned wild animals that need our help. If you feel passionate about wildlife and want to work with a friendly and dedicated group of like-minded people, then please submit an application to volunteer at the Oxfordshire Wildlife Rescue Service!

Animal Care Assistant

As an 'animal care assistant', you'll be working within the beating heart of our organisation. The Oxfordshire Wildlife Casualty Centre in Blewbury Oxfordshire. You do NOT need any previous experience or be a wildlife expert, just a love and passion for wildlife is all that is required. Full training, equipment and PPE will be provided.  As long as you can get to the centre, and can regularly commit to a set shift, we would love for you to come and join our team.

What to expect

We ask for a regular commitment to ensure we always have enough people on site each day, to help us look after all the patients in our care. Volunteers opt for a regular shift, which they attend every week at the same day/ time. Weekend shifts can be weekly or fortnightly.

Some of the jobs involved in being an animal care assistant are as follows :

  • Cleaning and feeding of animals at the centre.

  • Setting up Pens, Enclosures and cages for our patients.

  • Restocking supplies for all areas of the hospital and advising of any shortages.

  • General maintenance of the centre – tidying, cleaning, painting, maintenance of pens and aviaries etc

  • Helping to move patients throughout the centres facilities as they progress with their rehabilitation during their stay with us.

  • Being available to help hospital staff with jobs

  • Please be patient! We only have a small admin team. You should receive a reply within 28 working days.
